About Vulnerability on Wi-Fi (WPA2)

As of October 17, 2017, vulnerability of WPA2, which is used as Wi-Fi security protocol is announced. WPA2 is used for encrypting communication data. However the communication may tapped if malicious people exploit the vulnerability. That means your important data may be leaked.

Also eduroam include in this university has same problem. Please check venders' website and apply latest security update. ICT office does not recommend you to transfer important data (e.g. personal information) via Wi-Fi until the problem is fixed.


[How to Protect]

(1) As of October 18, Windows Update for the vulnerability is released. You can fix the problem by applying the update to your Windows PC.

(2) As of October 18, security update for other devices (e.g. macOS, Linux, iOS, Android) is not released yet. However the update for those products will be released within a few weeks. Please check venders' website constantly and update your OS as soon as it is ready.

(3) If you use Wi-Fi router in your home or your laboratory, check security news of the vender and take protective measures properly. Firmware updates may be required on your device.

Users cannot change/reissue password, change e-mail address. Adding printing points is also not available.

Renewal/Deletion of Computer System Account

Accounts on computer system for graduating students and retiring faculty members will be deleted at the end of autumn semester (September 19).

  • If you need to check your Sophia Mail during the period above, please set transfer settings to your other e-mail address in advance. (You can not send e-mails from Sophia Mail address though.)

Staff Prep. Room Open Schedule in this Summer

During summer holidays, Staff Preparation Room (Bldg.2 B2F) will be basically closed.
It will be open and support staff will be in the room on the following days.
 -July 24 (Mon.) - 28 (Fri.)  9:00am - 5:00pm
 -September 19 (Tue.) - 21 (Wed.)  9:00am - 5:00pm
 -September 22 (Fri.)  9:00am - 5:00pm
 -September 25 (Mon.) - 26 (Tue.)  9:00am - 7:00pm

If you would like to use Staff Prep. Room on the days not in the list, please come to Media Center Office* (Bldg.2 3F) to open the room.

For Teachers and Staffs, Stop Forwarding E-Mails From @hoffman.cc.sophia.ac.jp and @cc.sophia.ac.jp

We decided to postpone this stopping of forwarding e-mail from hoffman to sophia.ac.jp.

However, this forwarding e-mail is temporary measure.
We kindly ask all the e-mail holder, NOT to inform "hoffman" e-mail address any more.

Note: The stopping of forwarding e-mail from sophia.ac.jp to eagle for students will be done as planned.

For Teachers and Staffs, Stop Forwarding E-Mails From @hoffman.cc.sophia.ac.jp and @cc.sophia.ac.jp

On Jan. 10th 2016, the new e-mail service for teachers, Sophia-Mail (Office 365) started instead of Active!Mail.
Before then, some users used "@hoffman.cc.sophia.ac.jp" and "@cc.sophia.ac.jp", but since then the e-mail domain had been united to "@sophia.ac.jp"

To enable receive e-mails sent to the former e-mail address, Media Center is forwarding e-mails from "@hoffman.cc.sophia.ac.jp" and "@cc.sophia.ac.jp" to "@sophia.ac.jp".

This forwarding process will be stopped on 13:00 o'clock 10th July 2017.
All the e-mail sent to the former e-mail address, will be sent back to the sender as NDR (Non-Delivery Receipt ).
