From August 14th, 2020 (Fri.), the “Sender (From)” which is displayed on the recipients’ mailbox is changed as below:

  • When  a faculty member send a mail from their account or shared mailbox, the sender name is as follows:
    • When you send to @sophia.ac.jp:
the sender name is your name which is registered on the Sophia Integrated Database System.
    • When you send to other than @sophia.ac.jp, including Sophia mailing lists (@ml.sophia.ac.jp) or students (@eagle.sophia.ac.jp) :
the sender name is any name you like. (the same as before)
  • Faculty members, graduates, and retired faculty members can change their sender name.
  • Students cannot change their sender name.

*If you have Japanese characters in your name, please also refer to the Japanese version of this article.

Background

When users send e-mail messages, their name which is registered in Sophia Integrated Database System is used, but some members want to change the sender name from the registered name for reasons, such as they want to change uppercase/lowercase.

It used to be allowed to use your favorite name as the sender name when you send e-mail messages using POP/IMAP.

However, in about September 2018, Microsoft updated the system to ignore the sender name setting, then the name which is registered in Sophia Integrated DB must be used. Microsoft said this change aims to prevent disguising sender name.

Therefore ICT office added the function on February, 2019 that users can set a sender name which is different from their registered name.

Note: sender name allowed to use

If you would like to set up your sender name, please follow the notice which is written in the document “In use of Office365 services” of Sophia University.
