Connecting to the network in office

Faculty may connect their PCs to the network in their offices, but applications and setup may be required in advance.

[About the service]
The following rooms with information outlets have access to the campus network.
(Teachers’ office, PC rooms for faculty/department, Office of faculty/department, Laboratories for Graduate School, Research Institutes, Centers)

  • Please connect the LAN cable to the odd number port of the information outlet.
  • When connecting to the campus network on your PC, install anti-virus software. ICT Office lends “Virus Buster” of TrendMicro for free. Please refer to here).

Users who connect with DHCP connection
  As of March 2022, it applies to rooms in the following buildings and floors:
  ・Bldg. #2
  ・Bldg. #3/4/8/9 (Depends on the room. Please get in touch with the ICT Office)
  ・Bldg. #6
  ・Bldg. #10 3/4/5/6F
  ・Main Library (Depends on the room. Please get in touch with the ICT Office)

Users other than above

[Caution] Be sure to check below when you connect to the campus network:

Please be aware of computer viruses. Keep your PCs (OS, anti-virus software) up to date.

  1. Failure to take anti-virus and security measures that affect the campus network may result in suspension of campus network usage and account termination. 
  2. If your PC is infected with a virus, damaged, or data is lost, the ICT Office will not be able to repair or restore it. Please handle it with your responsibility.

 

Users who connect with a DHCP connection

Connecting with DHCP (IP address is automatically assigned).

Sophia ICT account is required to connect to the network.
*It takes 2 business days to issue the account. If you don’t have a Sophia ICT account, please apply for it in advance.

On a generally configured PC or smartphone, setting is unnecessary.
Application for IP address is unnecessary.

When the connection is failed, please set up your device to use a DHCP connection.
ICT Office provides a manual booklet “Manual for Wired LAN Service (DHCP)”.

Users other than the above

Connecting with a fixed IP address. Prior application and settings are necessary.

Please submit “Application for IP Network Connection” to the ICT Office.
We send “Approval for IP Network Connection” and “Manual for IP Connection Setup” three business days after or later than the acceptance day.

Who can apply for the network connection?

It depends on the room type as follows:

*Except those who belong to a faculty/department with a network, such as ‘Faculty of Science and Technology’ or ‘Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies’.

Application for IP address is unnecessary (DHCP connection certificated by faculty ID is used)

Who can connect to the network?

The applicant must be able to assume responsibility for guidance in the use of the network.
